Boo on You Media, For Calling Britney Spears Out of Shape
While I'm not defending Britney's sluggish performance at the MTV music awards, I am appalled at how the media has been bashing Britney's body.
She's been called out of shape. Having a "beer belly." Or worse. An AP music writer commented on "the paunch in place of Spears' once-taut belly."
Paunch? Not having washboard abs means you have a paunch? I saw a clip of Britney's performance and I didn't see one hint of a paunch anywhere. She looked fine. She's 25 and a MOTHER, for pete's sake. She isn't 18 years old anymore. Why on earth do you expect a grown women, a mother, to have the body of an 18-year-old who's never had children?
Sure, Britney should have chosen a better outfit (a sparkling bikini is bound to put focus on your body), but that's what's expected of her. So you put her up on this pedestal and then rip her down once she doesn't conform to the anorexic supermodel look. I hope Tyra Banks takes the media on with this one.
We as women need to support other women in having normal bodies. Britney Spears does not need to be super skinny just to be sexy. Her body is still fabulous! And the media needs to stop its juvenile criticisms of her and others like her. It's as if they gleefully want Britney to fail, and will stop at nothing at finding something to poke at.
And then we wonder why the poor girl is shaving her head. Leave her alone!
